The Nijmegen Arabic/Dutch Dictionary Project

1.9 the staff of the project

The collaborators to the project of compiling the Nijmegen Arabic Dictionaries can be classified in different categories:

bullet

editors

bullet

assistants

bullet

contributors/advisors

bullet

guiding commission

bullet

editorial committee

Editors were collaborators who were entitled to independently enter data in the database, change data or even remove data from the database. This group consisted of editors who are native speakers of Arabic and one editor who is an arabist and a native speaker of Dutch.
These editors are (in alphabetical order):

bullet

Hassan Barzizaoua (Morocco)

bullet

Rabha Heinen-Nasr (Egypt)

bullet

Azzouz Ifzaren (Morocco)

bullet

Monique IJzendoorn (the Netherlands)

bullet

Achmed Khabbazeh (Syria)

bullet

Choumissa Sadki (Morocco)

The fact that three editors originate from Morocco may seem an overrepresentation of Morocco, but all three editors of Moroccan origin contributed to the project successively.

Assistants were collaborators who were hired to enter or correct data that were supplied to them by editors or the project coordinator. They were not entitled to enter or change data independently. Most of them were just graduated or students in an advanced stage of their study of Arabic.
These  collaborators are (in alphabetical order):

bullet

Aicha Amzika

bullet

Tressy Arts

bullet

Joost Kremers

bullet

Oulfa Rouached

bullet

Nadja Schwarz

bullet

Chantal Sniekers

Then there is the category of collaborators who have provided advice, for example on lacking translations of  problematic Dutch words or expressions, or they checked part of the data. Most of them were not actually based in Nijmegen, but rendered their services from their own locations.
These  collaborators are (in alphabetical order):

bullet

Walid Abouzeid

bullet

Elsaid Badawi

bullet

Jeen Dosky

bullet

Anita van Duijn

bullet

Hayat El Koun

bullet

Rob Ermers

bullet

Hassan Mizori

bullet

Fransje Zweekhorst

Finally the project was supported by a guiding commission of experts. This commission was installed by the principal the CLVV, in order to monitor the execution of the project. This commission consisted of three scientists:

bullet

Willy Smedts, professor of General Linguistics at the University of Leuven (Belgium), member of the CLVV, president of the counselling commission

bullet

Emilio Platti, professor of Arabic at the University of Leuven (Belgium)

bullet

Jan Jaap de Ruiter, arabist, assistant professor of Arabic at the University of Tilburg (the Netherlands)
